Our law enforcement partners have completed a thorough search of the Clovis West High School campus and have released us back to normal operations. We are outraged over the disruption caused by an individual, possibly operating outside of our country (as has been found to be the case in other swatting incidents around the nation) and the anxiety that these calls have created for our students, families and our staff.
We continue to collaborate with the multi-agency law enforcement task force working to identify the source of these non-credible threats, and the many officers here to protect and support our campus. We’ve learned a new term lately, “swatting,” and our school is not alone, in the past year around 200 schools around the country have faced similar disruptions – and in every case these calls were fake. They are meant to scare us, and we have a team here to support our students and we have resources for anyone who is struggling with what’s happened. Please reach out to our school if you would like to be connected to any of these emotional wellness resources. You can also access resources available at https://www.cusd.com/SchoolSafety.aspx for students, staff and parents.
We will continue to take any potential risk to our students with complete seriousness and recognize that makes us vulnerable to similar disruptions by prank calls such as those we’ve experienced in the past few days. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work with local authorities to provide additional information and opportunities for our families to learn more about our safe school plans and how we ensure your child’s safety at school.
